Before beginning any new medication, even those you are able to purchase over the counter, you should talk with your pharmacist if you are on any other type of medication. They can help you avoid unnecessary drug interactions by telling you when to take the medication or suggesting an alternative.
- Antacids can bind with a number of medications decreasing their ability to be absorbed into the body. Separate taking antacids and medications such as tetracycline, or quinolone antibiotics by 2 hours.
- Cimetitine interferes with the metabolism of warfarin, phentoin and theophylline. Use another type of H2-antagonist if you are taking one of these medications.
- Omeprazole may interfere with the metabolism of diazepam, warfarin or phentoin. Dosage adjustments may need to be made if omeprazole is added or removed.
